Mazda3 Named #1 on Kelley Blue Book’s 2017 10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000 for the Fourth Year in a Row

The compact Mazda3 does it again and again and again… and again. For the fourth time in a row, Mazda3 has taken the No. 1 spot on Kelley Blue Book’s 10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000. Remarkably, Mazda3 has appeared on KBB.com’s annual affordable cool cars list every year since the car’s inception 14 years ago. “The Mazda3 is widely regarded as the best-looking and most fun-to-drive vehicle in the segment, and we call it one of the coolest cars of all time,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. Two longstanding criteria—fun-to-drive and fun-to-own—are critical among the deciding factors of what the KBB.com editors freely admit is a very subjective “cool factor,” the overarching No. 1 criterion for a vehicle to place on this list. Kelley Blue Book’s list of Coolest Cars Under $18,000 proves that you can find a head-turning vehicle that also suits your needs without breaking the bank. The 2017 Mazda3 carries a base MSRP of $17,845 and comes standard with Mazda’s industry-exclusive G-Vectoring Control (GVC), leading to smoother, more accurate steering inputs resulting in greater confidence and control for the driver. The latest model features an interior above its class and a striking design, delivering a more premium appearance. Advanced safety features such as i-ACTIVSENSE, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring and Smart City Brake Support helped the Mazda3 earn a Top Safety Pick+ honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Mazda3 is offered in sedan and five-door with available six-speed manual in addition to the automatic transmission, providing a sought-after option for purists.

Mazda Sets Out on Cross-Country Road Trip with All-New 2017 Mazda CX-5 Test Drive Experience

Following its much anticipated arrival in dealerships, Mazda North American Operations is taking the all-new 2017 Mazda CX-5 on a fifteen-city, nationwide “Experience the All-New 2017 Mazda CX-5” tour where prospective customers will have the opportunity to understand why driving a Mazda is so special, all while experiencing Mazda’s latest approach to craftsmanship, engineering and design, and how that’s embodied in the all-new CX-5. The cross-country tour will include “Intercept” events, or the more traditional ride and drive experience at a set location and “Mastercraft” events, which will feature special events in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Chicago, inviting Mazda owners to explore the “Mastercraft” behind a certain product or craft that aligns with the Mazda brand. “Our goal is to engage our audience in an impactful way, in a location that’s convenient and familiar to them,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing for Mazda North American Operations. “By allowing our customers to engage with our brand and our vehicles in an environment that is fun and interactive, we create the opportunity for potential customers to experience our personality as a brand. Ultimately, we hope they have such a great time during their drive experience that they consider joining the Mazda family, when searching for their next vehicle.” Participants of the “Intercept” component will be guided through the city on a quest to learn more about the vehicle and the unique Mazda driving experience. During the tour, participants will learn first-hand how a lighter vehicle can ultimately make the drive more fun; that safety features can enhance, and not overtake, the driving experience; how technology can help support the driving experience, not take away from it; and how Mazda’s Jinba Ittai driving philosophy directly translates to the driver’s everyday experience in the vehicle. When Mazda’s designers and engineers went back to redesign the all-new 2017 model, they emboldened it with a new, more refined KODO—Soul of Motion design, premium interior and added refinement and technologies. CX-5’s exterior draws in the eyes and never lets them go, honed in several new colors, including the lustrous Soul Red Crystal that brings a show-car-like finish to everyday drivers. Inside, the driver and passengers will notice a hushed cabin and smoother ride, thanks to an obsessive attention to detail and Mazda-exclusive technologies like G-Vectoring Control that uses the throttle and steering to smooth CX-5’s ride and build driver confidence. With all of the refinements, Mazda stayed focused on creating the best-driving vehicle in its segment—a hallmark of the Mazda brand and an area that further sets CX-5 apart from the competition.

One-Millionth Mazda MX-5 Comes Home

Mazda Motor Corporation announced today that the One-Millionth Mazda MX-5, a commemorative model celebrating the production of 1 million units of Mazda's iconic two-seater convertible sports car, has returned home after a year-long tour that saw the model exhibited at fan-facing events around the globe. The car arrived back at the company's Hiroshima headquarters on April 7. Mazda organized the One-Millionth MX-5 tour to celebrate with fans the achievement of 1 million units and to say thank you to everyone who has supported the model over the years. Over the course of the tour the car was exhibited at 35 events in Japan, the U.K., Spain, Germany, Belgium, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and more than 10,000 MX-5 fans signed their name on the bodywork. "Seeing so many signatures from all over the world really brought home the fact that people from different countries, cultures and generations have supported the MX-5 for more than a quarter of a century," said Masashi Nakayama, Program Manager and Chief Designer of the fourth-generation MX-5. "We are forever grateful to these fans, and we will continue working to elevate this car, a symbol of Mazda's dedication to driving pleasure, to the realm of high culture as we set our sights on the next milestone - 2 million units." The One-Millionth MX-5 will take part in the parade at the Hiroshima Flower Festival on May 3 and will be on display in the lobby of Mazda's Hiroshima headquarters from May 8-12. Mazda will continue promoting initiatives that value car culture and the history the brand has built together with its customers. It aims to enrich people's lives through a variety of touchpoints and become a brand with which customers feel a strong emotional connection.

2017 Mazda CX-9 Wins Wards 10 Best Interiors Award

Having previously won a spot on the prestigious list of Wards 10 Best Engines Award just a few months ago, the 2017 Mazda CX-9 earned its place with its turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine delivering standout performance and efficiency. Now, Mazda’s designers get to join the engineering team with another accolade of their own, as CX-9 has earned a 2017 Wards 10 Best Interiors award. “We designed Mazda CX-9’s interior from the onset with a concept of ‘Smart Indulgence,’ recognizing that there’s a balance between needs and wants,” said Julien Montousse, director of design, Mazda Design Americas, who personally led the design of CX-9’s interior. “Our goal was to maximize both functionality for families and opulence for couples looking for a getaway. “We’re thankful that WardsAuto recognized CX-9 as a ’10 Best Interiors’ winner, as it speaks to the success of our fledgling ‘Mazda Premium’ brand focus and the evolution of our KODO—Soul of Motion design language.” The second-generation CX-9 went on sale in May 2016, launching Mazda’s new top-tier Signature trim level, which features LED interior accent lighting, Auburn Nappa leather seating surfaces, rosewood sourced from premium guitar-maker Fujigen and aluminum trim. Complemented by its refined ride, quiet interior and the rush of 310 lb-ft of nearly instant torque from just 2,000 rpm and channeled through available, predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel drive, CX-9’s style and substance have strongly resonated with buyers. While most crossover SUVs see the majority of their sales in mid-tier trim levels, CX-9 buyers have overwhelmingly opted for top-trim CX-9 Grand Touring and Signature models—about 60 percent of model mix. Additionally, CX-9 has brought in new buyers that often come from premium or luxury nameplates. WardsAuto Senior Editor Tom Murphy said customers picking the upper trim levels of the new CX-9 is no surprise. “Our Signature test model arrived fully loaded with the beautiful rosewood and aluminum trim, rich two-tone leather and all the creature comforts we could want, for under $46,000,” Murphy said. “This is the kind of upscale versatility that makes utility vehicles so popular in America.” Starting at an MSRP of $31,520 in the thick of the three-row crossover SUV segment, CX-9 offers a combination of engaging driving dynamics, craftsmanship, quality, design and efficiency that is unmatched in its segment—truly the Mazda of family crossovers.
