The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today announced that the 2019 Mazda6 and 2019 CX-9 have earned its “TOP SAFETY PICK+” award when equipped with front crash prevention and specific headlights built after June 2019. The 2019 TSP+ for 2019 Mazda6 and CX-9 will carry over to the 2020 MY.
To qualify for a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, a vehicle has to earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It must also earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and be equipped with good headlights.
Both the 2019 Mazda6 and 2019 CX-9 have earned good ratings in all crashworthiness tests, superior front crash prevention ratings, and have now earned good ratings for improved headlights.

Mazda to Reveal First Mass-Production Battery EV
Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase the world premiere of its first mass- production battery electric vehicle at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
A completely new model, the EV will be the third installment in the automaker’s new-generation lineup. Mazda Commits To Introducing New Vehicles With Rear Seat Reminder Systems To Combat Child Heatstroke
In an effort to help parents and caregivers be reminded to check for children in rear seats, Mazda has joined an automaker-ledvoluntary commitment to add rear seat reminder systems to its new vehicles. This announcement is the industry’s latest effort to help enhance child safety, and expands upon widespread efforts to increase public awareness regarding the dangers of leaving children alone in a vehicle.
Under this commitment, automakers will innovate by introducing a wide range of approaches to help parents and caregivers remember to check the back seat as they leave a vehicle. These prompts may include a combination of auditory and visual alerts that will activate after a driver turns off the vehicle. With this pledge, the auto industry commits to having the rear seat reminder feature in essentially all cars and trucks by Model Year 2025 or sooner.
