Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced the 2019 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV when equipped with specific headlights has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) “Top Safety Pick+” designation, the nonprofit institution’s highest rating.

The CX-5 was awarded as a Top Safety Pick in its debut in 2013 and then from 2014 to 2019 as a “Top Safety Pick+” winner. The CX-5 is one of roughly thirty vehicles to qualify as a Top Safety Pick+ under the IIHS’s stricter criteria, which now requires a good passenger-side protection rating in a small overlap front crash. The CX-5’s standard Smart City Brake Support and effectiveness of specific LED lights were also instrumental to the CX-5 earning an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.

To attain “Top Safety Pick+” honors, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of “Good” for 2019 in six crashworthiness tests; an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention; and a “Good” headlight rating.

Mazda Motor Corporation today hosted the world premiere of the all-new Mazda3. The fully redesigned model will be rolled out to global markets starting from North America in early 2019. The all-new Mazda3 will be on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show, open to the public from Nov. 30 through Dec. 9.1

The all-new Mazda3 adopts a matured Kodo design language that attempts to embody the essence of Japanese aesthetics. While the overall form presents a simple, single motion, subtle undulations bring the design to life through shifting light and reflections that glide over the body surface. The result is a richerand more powerful expression of vitality than previous Kodo models. Despite sharing the Mazda3 moniker, the hatchback and sedan models have distinct personalities—the design of the hatchback is emotive, the sedan elegant.

For the fourth year in a row, Mazda has been awarded the “Best Car Brand” by U.S. News & World Report. Mazda’s line-up was praised for offering entertaining performance, intuitive infotainment systems, and upscale interiors.

“Mazda’s car lineup continues to set the standard by which other brands should be judged,” said Jamie Page Deaton, executive editor of U.S. News & World Report. “From the practical Mazda6 to the sporty MX-5, engaging driving dynamics and upscale interiors make any Mazda car a pleasure to own.”

To determine the award winners, U.S. News & World Report averaged the overall score of all the given brand’s products in each award class.
